Sponsors: Völkl, Lange, Marker

German women dominate in speed events, and Hilda Gerg is an especially strong Super G contender, but could feasibly in any of the four alpine disciplines including slalom. First in World Cup Super G standings last year, Gerg will be hard to beat in the Nagano Games. With the '94 Sierra Nevada World Cup title and the '96 Val d'Isère title, she is ranked third in the overall 1997 World Cup standings.

Gerg is 2nd in overall World Cup standings where the top-three spots are currently held by German women, with teammates Katja Seizinger and Martina Ertl in 1st and 3rd places.
