Mother Nature Takes Control

The Southern Traverse
The pressure is really showing on the teams and the toughness of Sections 4 and 5 have caused the competitors many problems. Freezing conditions are causing teams much distress despite the efforts of the support crews to keep them warm. The full moon provided excellent viewing conditions, but at 8pm rain clouds began to close in over the mountains, causing concern for the safety of the competitors when they arrive at the abseiling section.

The Southern Traverse
Rain and Fog
Team Elvis has officially withdrawn — a report came in of a severe bee sting on team member Adam Fairmaid. Running Hot have reported a problem with one team member at the abseiling section, but are continuing the race having teamed up with the two remaining members of Fairydown Long International. Star & Garter are continuing the cracking pace over the mountain run section and have considerably extended its lead. The team is now expected to finish a day earlier than originally anticipated. Cromwell is still going strong in 2nd position about two hours behind Star & Garter. Team Icebreaker is currently ranked in third position. The women's team untouchedworld.com is doing very well and still smiling in 22nd place.

The weather has been a major factor in the speed of the Southern Traverse so far, and if the rain keeps at bay and the air temperature stays warm the race should be completed in record time.
