Lhakpa Dorji's Health Still in Question

Hello, we're in Base Camp. It's the 22nd of December now. Lhakpa Dorji, who's my main climbing Sherpa, has been improving marginally. But he's still primarily on liquids and British supplements, called Horlicks and Boost, and a few boiled potatoes, which we've unthawed and put in a pressure cooker, and he's been able to eat those. But he hasn't been improving nearly as quick as I thought. I don't think it is altitude related because that's pretty rare with Sherpas when they get down this low — low being 5000m. So what we're going to do is probably give it another 24 hours or so and see how he goes because we're on a pretty tight schedule to get back up the trail. Probably carry another load up to Camp III and then a final carry up to the North Col, before we go for the summit on the New Year's. So, what we'll do is update you in the next 24 hours on just how he's doing because he's pretty much key to whether we can go back up the mountain or not.

The only other advent up here is the two dogs that were following us around: one of them slowed down a bit and eventually had five puppies. So we're looking after five very cute, little Tibetan Mastiffs who are living under the hut here and we're making sure the mother gets lots of very fine food like Chinese Spam and Vietnamese sausages. So she can keep them warm. That's all the news from here now and we'll check in the next 24 hours on the health of the Sherpa team.
