Alpine Big Wall Climber Seth Shaw Killed

Seth Shaw, a Salt Lake City resident and one of America's outstanding alpine big wall climbers, was killed by serac fall on Alaska's Mount Johnson. His partner, Tim Wagner, escaped with a fractured fibula.

News Brief: Katie Brown Flashes 5.14a

Katie Brown recently became the first woman to flash a 5.14a sport route after climbing Mont Sant Spain's Hydrophobia. After receiving information on how to do the crux of the route, Brown sent it on her first try. Brown said that without the information, she definitely would not have been able to do the route first try, according to information provided by her sponsor, The North Face. Not only is this Brown's first 5.14a flash, it is her first 5.14a ever.
