Mental Test Day Sunday, September 19, 1999
Buenas días Mountain Zone. This is Vern Tejas with Team Omega reporting in from Mount Aconcagua, Argentina. The mountain was beautiful this morning, with alpenglow splashing across the face while we arose to [Unintelligible] and eggs for breakfast wow, what a treat. Yesterday we took our mental flexibility tests, which are being conducted by Allan Remond with the University of Alaska. We're taking four tests while we're on the mountain to check and see where we go mentally as we ascend and watch our mental capacity as we descend at the same time. The tests were a success and we proved that Bob is a genius and that unfortunately it looks like I'm a sub-mongoloid cretin. But other than that, we're going to be doing the test also at Camp I and Camp II at 19,000ft and get the reports back to Allan Remond at the University of Alaska where he will process them and turn them into graphs so we can see exactly what was going on with our mental capacities. Yesterday, as stated, was rest day. We acclimatized and built red build cells. Today we're moving food and fuel and extra gear up to Camp I at about 16,400ft. And we're going to come back down here, rest another night and then continue up the mountain. So we're on the hill now and progressing and the weather looks favorable and the moon is favorable and we're just all totally psyched right now to have a wonderful climb...[Transmission Fails] Vernon Tejas, MountainZone.com Correspondent
