Norwegians Summit Trango Pulpit
Islamabad, Pakistan

August 17, 1999

Temperature: 94°F. The Pakistan Ministry of Tourism reports that four Norwegians summited Trango Pulpit (6,050 meters) on August 1, 1999 via the north face. Their climb was the second ascent of the Trango Pulpit.

They spent 35 days on the 2,200 meter vertical wall in capsule style (meaning that they hauled all their gear up the wall with them), sleeping on hanging portaledges. They were short of food during the last two weeks and had no rations the last three days. The Trango area is a favorite haunt of Norwegian climbers. This certainly ranks as the greatest Big Wall climb in the area and is comparable to Alex Lowe, Mark Synnott, and Jared Ogden's recent ascent of the northwest Great Trango Wall.

The team members were Robert Caspersen (leader), Einar Wold, Perludvig Skjerven, and Gunnar Karlsen. The climb was rated as Grade V, Class 5.11, A4.
