Hi Mountain Zone, it's Wally Berg. I'm calling you from Base Camp about 1:25 on the 8th. We had a nice walk up the moraine here today. The team all arrived between about 10:30 and 11, walked into a still developing Base Camp here. Many of the Sherpas are up here, mostly some of the Sherpas that are going to be climbing with the Alpine Ascents team this year. At this point they're still building rock walls and getting ready. So we walked in and were happily greeted by these guys. Saw a lot of old friends as we walked through Base Camp. Specifically we've been hanging out with Todd and John, two old, good friends of ours who just came back through the icefall after their first trip up today. Also just had a really warm reunion with my old friend Greg Wilson, who's guided here on Everest with me a couple of times in the past. A lot of good friends here.

The team enjoyed hanging out. We got a great photo with the icefall behind, which I just uploaded you out to be able to see it right away. We're all feeling a little light headed; I would say slightly spacey, headaches. We got the altitude stuff going on and I think it makes an impression on everyone what it's like to just move into this camp knowing you are going to stay for seven weeks and try to climb a mountain.

It's been a beautiful day up here. We've enjoyed meeting several teams. Samantha Kim was happily greeted by the Korean team; they identified her as Korean from a few feet off and she speaks great Korean so she was eagerly welcomed into their camp. And everybody up here has been really great to visit with, it is great to see some climbers in action and also to be on scene where the Alpine Ascents team will be staging their climb, beginning pretty soon. We hope to see those guys as we trek back down the valley now, and I'll give you some reports as we're underway doing that. We're out at Base Camp at this time so we can get back to Gorak Shep and get ready to head back out the Khumbu and find some more adventures.
