Today the climbing expedition should have made their first climb up the Lhotse Face to spend a night at Camp III (23,500'). Most climbers do this to evaluate how well they have acclimatized and give their bodies another chance to adjust to the thinning air. Those that can bear to spend the night here without supplemental oxygen are usually fit enough to attempt a summit bid.

After the acclimatization night, during which most people can't sleep and feel the effects of altitude in earnest for the first time, the team will descend all the way to base camp. There they will eat, sleep, and wait for a forecast window of clear weather to begin moving up the mountain again. They'll go to their advance base camp at Camp II, and if the weather forecast remains clear, they will attempt a summit bid.
