[GO BACK]

A universally uncomfortable place, the South Col, at 26,300', is all rock, ice, wind, climbing debris and altitude. The only pleasure climbers report experiencing here is of standing on an exclusively legendary place in the history of climbing and that it is that much closer to the summit. Even the glorious views are hard to appreciate when altitude takes such a toll on physical comfort.
