The all-seeing eyes of Buddha, at Swayambunath (in Kathmandu) on a site considered sacred more than 2,500 years ago. Monkeys playing around the temple and on the long flight of tree-lined steps leading to the stupa has earned it the informal name of "monkey temple." Drums, gongs, and trumpets can be heard accompanying devotions in the gompa (monastary).
