The Mountain Zone's EVEREST '97 Coverage Sponsored by Microsoft Internet Explorer

The Triangular Face of Everest rises above the South Col to a false summit at the Balcony (27,500'). This is the beginning of the summit bid route. What looks like a gentle roll in the snow where Everest meets the Col is a massive ice wall that is the first hurdle on the summit climb.
