Team Acclimating at 13,000' Thursday, April 10, 1997 -- 10pm (Dingboche)
Calling to quickly check-in, Potterfield says the Alpine Ascents team left Thyangboche (12,600') on April 9 and hiked up to Dingboche at over 13,000'. They're coming up on their second evening in Dingboche, and on Eric Simonson's recommendation, plan to spend an extra day there to acclimate further before moving on to Lobuche at 16,000' on Saturday, April 12.
From Peter Potterfield's Satellite Phone Call:
"We're having a cool time here in Dingboche, and we're going to get an extra day to enjoy it... We feel like an expedition for the first time because we're camping in tents and not tea-houses... They say the scenery here is lovely, but we haven't seen anything but clouds in the last two days, and we're hoping for a look at some of the mountain scenery around us."
