Indonesians at Camp II and Heading Down
Monday, April 28, 1997 -- 9:30pm PST

Todd Burleson reported at 10am, Tuesday April 29 (Nepal time) from Everest Base Camp, that all members of the Indonesian summit team were confirmed seen at Camp II (21,000'). They are expected to continue down to Base Camp today.

The Indonesians were the first team to summit Everest this year. The team's sirdar Apa summited at 2:40pm with two Indonesians (a third turned back before the summit) and three Russians (including Anatoli Boukreev) continuing to summit until 3:45pm on Saturday April 26 (Nepal time). They spent that night at an emergency bivouac just bellow The Balcony at around 27,500'. The next day they descended to their high-camp at the South Col and are now moving down the mountain toward Base Camp.
