The Mountain Zone's EVEREST '97 Coverage Sponsored by Microsoft Internet Explorer

The all-seeing eyes of the Buddha at Swayambhunath (in Kathmandu) on a site considered sacred more than 2,500 years ago. Monkeys playing on the long flight of the tree-lined steps leading to the stupa has earned it the informal name of "monkey temple." Drums, gongs, and trumpets can be heard accompanying devotions in the gompa (monastary).
