Take the Plunge
Have we peaked your interest in the Eco-Challenge? To get involved you must be 18, have a team of five, expendable income to the tune of a $10,000 entry fee, and the hand-eye coordination to dial: (310) 553-8855. You might want to take this handy quiz to find out if you have what it takes. Fill in what fits your adventure pallet best:

1) A friend asks you to go for a hike through the Rockies. You really want to bring ___
A) a rubber chicken.
B) a jeep, with a cot and a full cooler.
C) a 50 lb. back pack full of gorp to snack on.

2) You've just finished the Boston Marathon and the first thing you want to do is ___
A) listen to Perry Como albums while doing house work in the nude.
B) collapse.
C) ride your bike to Seattle to start training for the Ironman.

3) You're swimming across the English channel. You're half way thinking ___
A) would baboons think I'm better looking than members of their own species?
B) sharks!? Do sharks come this far north?
C) do I have enough time to dive to the bottom for clams, on one breath of air?

4) Now you are canoeing down the Amazon and you start pondering ___
A) if the TV Batman (Adam West) would have found the black costume more slimming.
B) if a meteor hit your boat, would you make it to the shore before the crocodiles make it to you.
C) if python (or crocodile) goes well with bean dip.

5) You are lost on camel back in the middle of the Sahara and your first thought is to ___
A) tan until nightfall, then follow the brightest star to Bethlehem.
B) risk water loss by crying loudly in hope that your mom will come to help you.
C) WAKE UP! Because this is a dream, for in real life you would never be lost in the desert, although the desert is not an uncommon place for you to be.

What's your score?

Mostly 'A's, you might be able to compete, but therapy should really be made a first concern. Mostly 'B's, perhaps adventure racing and long endurance runs are not your cup of tea... good effort though. 'C's across the board... well, pack your adventure bag, find four others, raise $10,000, and get involved for the '97 Eco-Challenge!
