| The morning was sunny and warm, providing us a perfect opportunity
to dry our soggy clothes from the day before. Two moose were in the lake when we
awoke. Enjoying breakfast under big peaks. We hung out with Alan and Craig, two guys from Texas we met at Elizabeth Lake, throughout the morning. We had set up our "garage sale" of wet clothes under the morning sun. We noticed a surge of packless hikers arriving at Kootenai Lakes around 11 a.m. Inquiring, we learned there was a ferry boat landing about four miles up the trail. The ferry runs between the tiny town of Waterton in Alberta, Canada and Goat Haunt Ranger Station in Glacier National Park, providing easy day-hike access into the heart of one of America's wildest parks. We passed through Goat Haunt ourselves on the way to Lake Janet. The hike from Kootenai to Lake Janet was pretty mellow. We lunched at Waterton Lake, staring up toward Canada, before heading west toward our camp. Lake Janet sits under the stunning, jagged Citadel Peaks. |
