Chiodi is the surprise qualifier for the first Olympic snowboard team. A strong but unheralded rider, Chiodi woke up the world with a win in the first US Snowboard Grand Prix, and sealed his team berth with a fifth in the final event in Mammoth. A native of Fairport, NY, Chiodi moved to Stratton Mountain in Vermont four years ago to concentrate on his riding. Chiodi closed out the 1997 season with a big win at the American Snowboard Tour's North American Championships at Mt. Snow, VT.
