Athlete Bios: Snowboarding GS

Mark Fawcett (CAN)
Birthplace: New Bruswick, CAN
Home Base: Hood River, OR

"I began snowboarding in 1985 on an old plastic Sims board that had a Skateboard mounted on top. After using the board during the winter on the local golf courses and back hills, I pulled the skate deck off the yellow plastic board and began skateboarding. The following year I bought a Burton 140 Elite, and the next I found myself on a Sims 1700 blade. I started competing on the New England Cup in 1988 against the likes of then "unknowns" Jason Ford, Jeff Brushie, Noah Brandon, Todd Richards and countless others. My early successes were in freestyle, but it did not take long for my ski racing past to leak through to my boarding."

It's more like gush than leak, Fawcett, of the Cross M Team, has had a great season. Fawcett took the early part of this season mellow, deciding not to race in the European FIS events. In his season opener, Fawcett blew by the competition to win Whistler World Cup. Click to hear what he said after his comeback victory.

He didn't waste any time adding to his victory, when the next week he took the top spot at the Sugarloaf Grand Prix and in January took second in the Mt. Bachelor Grand Prix.
