Richards said,"The Olympics will be special. I'm doing this for my dad and mother. My dad was a hockey player and parents always want their kids to do well, but I was into skateboarding - really, I was a punk kid but I turned it around...and then he died just as my career was taking off. So I want to do well for him, and for Mom."

Richards entered seven halfpipe contests last winter. He won five (including the Bud Light Grand Prix HP in Snowmass and ESPN's X-Games) plus HP silver at the '97 ISF World championships.
