Josef Strobl (AUT) Strobl is currently ranked thirteenth in the overall World Cup standings. Perhaps his greatest achievement so far this season was saving face for the Austrians during the famous Hahnenkamm Downhill race in Kitzbuhel, where he was the only Austrian to stand on the downhill podium all weekend. He looked to be the next all-around superstar in the image of other great Austrian legends like Gunther Mader and Karl Shranz. But, in training for Val Gardena he got smacked in the eye with the control gate which required surgery. Strobl also suffered through mysterious pain in both legs, but doctors couldn't find a problem. Now it looks like he's back on track. Individuals with voracious competitiveness, the Austrians may just end up beating each other silly to fill the top ranks in Nagano.
