The mountain air awakens something inside. We all go to the mountains searching for something that we can neither grasp nor describe. It floats in and out of our vision at the edge of our consciousness, sometimes affording us a brief glimpse, a hint of identity, only to disappear once again. But then there are those unexpected moments of clarity when the turbulent waters ebb and the mind stops seeking, allowing us a glimpse of the ineffable. These moments may appear in a moment of beauty or fear, in the midst of tranquility or tenacity. The fleeting images come as we lay first tracks through two feet of fresh or when we endure the impossible crux; sometimes they simply occur when we sit down for the first time after a long day in the mountains. These are the experiences I savor and the moments I wish to capture through my photography.

My primary goal is to get outside and play. Sometimes the light is right, the moment holds something magical and I happen to get the right exposure with my Nikon. These moments are rare, but when it happens and I can produce an image that inspires or transports someone to another time and place, then I have done what I have set out to do.
