1996 American Gasherbrum II Expedition. This is Maury McKinney making his way into the icefall below Camp I at about 17,500 feet. It took us 13 days to negotiate a route through the icefall to Camp 1 at about 19,000 feet. The summit of Gasherbrum I is in the background.
