Rain and High Winds Push Back Big Air May 21, 2000 [Big Air Story] Saturday's nasty weather turned even nastier overnight, leading to a one-day delay in the Westbeach program. None of the athletes or organizers feel like weathering the conditions at the top of Whistler, where the horizontal rain already took out the DJ's turntable and stage. So everyone headed downhill for some down time. With any luck, the wind and rain will subside enough tomorrow to allow for one serious huckfest. We've seen the kicker, and the kicker is HUGE. As if that's not enough, tomorrow is Victoria Day, which is Canada's version of Memorial Day, but we're not expecting too much b-b-que action up in the rain zone. The forecast calls for some sun breaks in the morning, but the weather might turn ugly again tomorrow afternoon. As always, this schizophrenic maritime climate will make the last call. In the meantime, the NBA finals and Stanley Cup playoffs are keeping just about everyone occupied. Thankfully, there's always something going on in Whistler. DJ Herbalizer is headed down to Tommy Africa's with his soggy gear. Barring any electronic shortages, there will at least be some music with which to chill. We'll keep you posted. Pray for sun.
