To get to Iceland: Fly to Reykjavík.
Shelter: Only camp sites and mountain huts with areas for sleeping bags charge a fee. Tents are allowed overall, unless otherwise stated.
Transportation: "Icelandflight" flies daily to all regions of the country. The Ringstreet bus drives rings around the island on the Ringstreet, the primary route of the country, open year-round. Rental cars are expensive but allow you mobility. Transportation in the mountains is possible with snowmobiles or jeeps.
Travel time: The best time is from the middle of April until the middle of May. During these months there are no tourists, relatively good weather, 24-hour light, and guaranteed snow.
