Day two of our non-vehicular approach to K2 began as day one did. Again the team stood by watching as the 25 camel jockeys loaded their 75 beasts of burden with our 200 plus loads. For the most part, the camels would let their drivers load them with surprising submission. But there were a few that refused to hump their loads — bucking, spitting, and braying — until the jockeys lassoed their hind legs, finally bringing them to their knees. This was a quite a sight and made us glad we weren't the camels, though we will be soon enough as we hump our own loads on the mountain.

After all the excitement, the caravan got on its way to our next camp at 13,500ft just below Aghil Pass. Tomorrow we head up and over the Pass and down into the Shaksgam River drainage that we follow for another day. The whole team is doing well even with the small trekking ailments that happen on and off. We all finally feel that this is why we came, to be surrounded by the stark beauty of these remote and largely unnamed, unclimbed mountains.
