Jet Stream Keeping Climbers in Base
Thursday, September 18, 1997
(Everest North Face Advance Base Camp, Tibet)

All teams attempting a climb have descended to ABC. Jet stream winds over 100mph will be above 7000 meters for the next 3 to 5 days until this wind storm blows over. No one is attempting to climb until this passes. Weather in ABC is gorgeous. Sunny with cloud coverage. Above 7000 meters, unbelievable winds and very cold. Everyone in good spirits.

Climbers are waiting for the forecast for the next 5 to 10 days. There is still no one above 7,600 meters. The Spanish and English teams are very tired. Everyone is being patient about the weather. More avalanches again today.
