westbeach classic halfpipe jam goes off

Queen Kjeldaas The Westbeach Classic Halfpipe went off this afternoon under beautiful sunny skies. With some of the greatest riders from Canada, the US, France, and Norway, the jam delighted the crowd. In the jam format, up to four riders can go at a time. Each judge is responsible for scoring one rider's complete run. It is a "less competitive" format and most riders liked it because they got more runs in and didn't have to wait around.

Vergil? Trevor! Todd Richards (USA) took the contest with his consistent big and inverted style. Trevor Andrew (CAN), the local favorite took second. He was getting huge amplitude but wasn't even trying to do the technical stuff that Richards' was almost flawless at. There was a tie for third between two other Canadians, JF Pelchat and Allan Clark, who both were also boosting close to ten feet out of the pipe

The Ladies Mmmmm In the women's contest, Stine-Brune Kjeldaas (NOR) took the top prize with her large air and smooth 360's. Natasza Zurek (CAN) competing before her home mountain, was close behind Kjeldaas but never threw a McTwist, which might have put her over the top. Tina Basich (USA) won third honors with amplitude and grace.
