Hi, this is Joy Marr, Odyssey Adventure Racing. We're at the race headquarters for the Beast here in Claytor Lake Virginia. We've got, at CP3, which is the take-out for the river section, the teams have just finished paddling about 58 miles. We've got 18 teams that are in. We've got quite a few teams that have headed on over and started doing their Jumar, the ascent of Castle Rock, which is approximately 220ft.

We've got about about 11 teams that have gone through that area and have started working their way over, through the woods, to do the rappel this afternoon. They've got a rappel on a sheer cliff. There's about 10 teams that have actually gone down the ropes over there, and six of those teams have transitioned out of the transition area with their support crews, changed over to bicycles and have started on their way through the scenic countryside.

They've got a huge elevation gain coming up on them, on their way over to Wood's Hole. I believe the two leading teams — which are Pharmanex/Salomon and Andy Scott, who was our solo competitor from last year — are on on their way into Wood's Hole. They've been seen on the road just a couple of miles outside of the CP.

Seems like the teams are moving well. Everyone is in good spirits. As far as the timeline, we're pretty much on our timeline, similar to what we had last year. The extra water that we saw on the river this season seemed to help the teams a little bit, got them off before the headwinds picked up this afternoon and everyone seems to be doing really, really well.

Keep checking out our updates; we'll keep them coming as soon as we possibly can, and we look forward to seeing you and speaking with you later on today. Have a good day, this is Joy Marr, Odyssey Adventure Racing, out.

Joy Marr, Beast of the East Race Director
